Residents cultivate gardening workshop

May 22, 2009 – An east tower resident has convinced Marina Towers Condominium Association to resume organized social events, following a frustrating wait for the condo association to plan social events on its own. Lynn Neils says the MTCA Social Committee will host a gardening workshop on Thursday.

“I started this because I don’t expect the MTCA board to entertain me,” says Neils, “nor can they do it all themselves. They need ideas and help and that’s what I brought to the table.”

Neils says she wrote to the MTCA Social Committee chairperson, Phyllis Hartford, requesting a meeting to “brainstorm ideas and [offer] my help to organize events.” The Social Committee, which includes residents who are not board members, met on May 6 and selected the gardening workshop as its first event. Neils says residents are interesed in organized social events and more events will follow.

“One way to nurture community at Marina Towers is to offer community events.” Neils says there is “enough talent, knowledge, expertise, [and] experiences in our two towers that we could have something scheduled every day of the week, whether it’s a lecture, a recital, a travelogue, a demonstration, a club, pot-luck…”

Neils says she is open to suggestions for future events. She can be reached by email at lynn.neils@gmail.com.
