April 27, 2013 – (Above) Two sightseeing boats pass the construction site that is the Wells Street Bridge on Friday afternoon. As of about 10 p.m. on Friday, work has started on the other half of the 91-year-old bascule bridge, replacing the north leaf this time. The section in center frame with the Chicago banner will be fitted into a space now occupied by the brown section at right. (Click on image to view larger version.)

Closed to pedestrians and vehicles since last November, CTA trains will avoid the bridge until just before morning rush on May 6. The south leaf was replaced in early March. Work on the bridge should be entirely finished by November 2013.
