Waterview re-developers to present lecture

September 5, 2012 – The company that has taken over development of the ill-fated Waterview Tower at Wacker Drive and North Clark Street will update downtown residents on their progress at a lunchtime lecture in October hosted by Friends of Downtown.

Related Midwest, which along with 28 subcontractors acquired the property last year, plans to turn the unfinished 25-story eyesore into a 59-story luxury apartment building. 111 West Wacker Drive will be a 630-foot glass and steel tower with 506 apartments, 439 parking spaces, a restaurant, indoor pool, sun deck, fitness facilities, and retail space on the first floor. When completed in 2014, an estimated 800 people will live there.

42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly, who once called the stalled project “a monument to the global economic collapse in 2008,” says he has “enthusiastic support” for the new design.

Friends of Downtown is an organization that promotes, according to its website, “intelligent planning and urban design for downtown Chicago.”
