42nd Ward picks Rauner in low turnout

March 24, 2014 – Choices were limited and the 42nd Ward could manage just a 15 percent turnout for the primary elections by last Tuesday.

Of 29,603 registered voters, 2,323 voted in the Democratic primary and 2,137 voted in the Republican primary, according to the Board of Election Commissioners for the City of Chicago.

In the race for governor, incumbent Pat Quinn got 87 percent of the 42nd Ward’s votes. Among the Republicans, Bruce Rauner got 57 percent, Bill Brady 20 percent, Kirk Dillard 17 percent, and Dan Rutherford five percent.

Running for U.S. Senate, Douglas Truax received 61 percent of the vote while Jim Oberweis got 38 percent.

In the Republican primary election for state treasurer, Bob Grogan got 53 percent of the vote and Tom Cross received 46 percent.
