October 25, 2011 – (Above) Two of 32 mannequins that appeared on Wacker Drive on Tuesday between Michigan Avenue and Wells Street. The mannequins are part of a safety campaign by Chicago police and the Chicago Department of Transportation. Each mannequin represents one of 32 pedestrians that were struck and killed last year in Chicago.

“Pedestrians are the most vulnerable users of the public way,” said CDOT Commissioner Gabe Klein in a news release. “This campaign is specifically designed to change the behaviors that lead to pedestrian crashes.”

Funding for the campaign came from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
