Serving the Loop and Near North neighborhoods of downtown Chicago
Early voting starts at two locations in 42nd Ward

January 14, 2008 – Early voting has started in Cook County and will end on January 31. Residents of Marina City in the 42nd Ward have two locations from which to choose, one about ten blocks north and the other five blocks south.

Through the primary election on February 5, former 42nd Ward Alderman Burton Natarus is still 42nd Ward Committeeman for the Democrats. “Committeeman” is a position within a political party, responsible for promoting the party and getting people to vote.

The Republicans have a 42nd Ward Committeeman, Susan Simmons, who is not running for re-election. (The term is Committeeman regardless of gender.) Candidates for the job include Eloise Gerson, a former Committeeman who is currently Chairman of the 42nd Ward Republican Organization, and Leslie Logsdon, a commercial real estate broker.

With the election of Brendan Reilly to replace Natarus, a new 42nd Ward Democratic Committeeman has been chosen. John Corrigan is an attorney and political consultant. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence.

In the tiny 27th Precinct that includes mostly just Marina City, John Leonard is the Democratic precinct captain. He will be replaced by Don Pechous, a Marina City resident who is also Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County.

According to Dave Clarkin, campaign manager for John Corrigan, Leonard is “a great guy and has expressed interest in remaining active in the 42nd Ward Regular Democrats once Corrigan assumes the helm.”

Election officials are expecting a large turnout on election day, and are encouraging people to vote early. Locations for early voting in the 42nd Ward are as follows:
