Falk vision improving

July 12, 2010 – A retina specialist at University of Illinois Medical Center says Vincent Falk’s vision is improving. The Marina City resident and documentary subject has been temporarily blind since a complication following glaucoma surgery on May 24.

Although vision has yet to fully return, Dr. Felix Chau said last Wednesday that Falk is “doing better every time I see him. His choroidal detachments are slowly regressing. I do anticipate his vision slowly getting better with time.”

The choroid, according to various websites, is one of the layers of the wall inside the eyeball. Choroidal detachment, which occurs infrequently following glaucoma surgery, is when the layer is displaced from its normal position.

According to Falk, he can now see shapes and colors in his left eye. He has been blind since birth in the other eye.

Meanwhile, the documentary about Falk is returning to the Gene Siskel Film Center on North State Street in Chicago. Vincent: A Life In Color will run July 23 through July 29.

The film’s producer, Jennifer Burns, said in a recent newsletter that she wants to take the film on the road and is looking for “art house” theatres to show the film.
