April 14, 2012 – (Above) Seen from Marina City, Willis Tower at right emerges from clouds in a three minute 48 second time-lapse video of Chicago produced recently by a former resident. Shot over the past two years from numerous locations in and near the Loop and lakefront – at sunrise, sunset, and everywhere in between – Places in Time is the first in a series by Chris Pritchard, a video producer now living in Los Angeles.

“My goal was to provide a glimpse into the energy and fast paced life of an average day in downtown Chicago,” writes Pritchard in a description of the video, “enhanced through fast motion time-lapse. Some of the viewpoints and locations may seem familiar, but I’ve also tried to showcase the city from a number of different and less common vantage points.”

Pritchard lived in Chicago from 2003 until late 2010, including Marina City for about five years. Reached by email on Saturday, he recalled the Marina City vantage points were captured from two condo units he rented, one in the east tower and the other in the west tower, as well as units owned by friends.

The video, according to Pritchard, has been viewed about 57,000 times. It was shot with Cannon 5D and 550D cameras that can video record in high definition.

Pritchard’s work has been utilized by ABC News, CNBC, Forbes, MSN, NBC Universal, PBS, and Travel+Leisure. His videos also include An Evening in Downtown LA and time-lapse of a Transformers 3 set as seen from the east tower of Marina City.

Chicago will continue to be his “secondary home base” and he is planning a new project here yet this year. Promises Pritchard, “The area will definitely be represented.”
