Police report armed robberies in Loop pedestrian tunnels

22-Feb-18 – Commuters have been robbed at gunpoint in CTA pedestrian tunnels in the Loop. It has happened three times since January 30, all during morning or early evening hours.

According to Chicago police, the muggings happened in tunnels beneath the area of State & Adams that connect Red and Blue CTA lines. Victims were surrounded by five men, one of whom displayed a handgun. They have been struck and kicked by the men. The crew, said by police to “frequent” the tunnels, have stolen wallets, a mobile phone, and a designer belt.

The first robbery happened on January 30 at about 9:15 a.m. Another happened on February 13 at about 7:00 a.m., and a third the next day at about 7:00 p.m.

The men are described as black, 18-25 years old.
