Trump Spa entices Marina City residents

February 21, 2009 – If a luxurious chocolate massage doesn’t do it, The Spa at Trump is hoping to lure Marina City residents with its cardiovascular equipment and weight training rooms.

Aware of issues Marina City is having with fitness centers, the Trump facility is again trying to entice residents over to its spa and health club located on Wabash Avenue, one block east of Marina City.

In July 2008, after nine years at the complex, Crunch closed its fitness facility at Marina City. In January 2009, Marina Towers Condominium Association announced plans for a small fitness center on the 20th floor of one residential tower, but residents have voiced criticism of the project that would cost $435,000.

Membership Director Caroline Rawlings says about 22 Marina City residents are currently members of The Spa at Trump, up from ten last September. She says the most common objection residents have to joining is the $2,000 enrollment fee. But she says this can be broken up into monthly installments added to monthly dues, which are $190.

The Spa at Trump In an “Exclusive Invitation for Marina City Residents,” left under doors recently, The Spa at Trump is offering, during February only, $1,000 off the enrollment fee.

Member benefits, according to the invitation, include complimentary overnight laundry service, one hour suit press and shoe shine, a 60-minute personal training session, discounts on spa treatments, and monthly parking for $185.

Parking at Marina City costs $220 per month for residents and $250 per month for non-residents. David Amponsah, Area Manager for System Parking, says it’s a good deal, as some residential parking ramps charge $350 to $500.

The 23,000 square foot facility on the 14th floor of Trump International Hotel and Tower opened in January 2008. It includes 11 spa treatment rooms and a 16,000 square foot state-of-the-art health club. The facility is available only to members and guests of the hotel, and membership will be capped at 250.
