Crain’s says Transwestern still a ‘best place to work’

March 28, 2010 – Finding ways to save jobs and employee perks has kept the real estate company that manages commercial property at Marina City in the top ten “best places to work” in Chicago, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.

The regional business newspaper ranked Transwestern ninth on its 2010 list that will be published on Monday. The company was ranked first last year.

“Transwestern weathered a hard year in commercial real estate with good planning and tough decisions,” writes Matthew Carmichael, research director for Crain’s. “As a company, everyone decided to take progressive cuts in salary as an alternative to laying off people. The company also held office events in-house, trimmed its intern program and did what it could to maintain perks at a reduced level.”

Transwestern

Transwestern has 223 local employees, up from 161 last year, and 1,474 employees worldwide.

According to its web site, the real estate services company has 61 lease listings and 21 properties for sale in the Chicago area.

Topping the list this year is McTigue Financial Group, which specializes in insurance, risk management, investment strategies, and employee benefits.

Any business in a six-county area surrounding Chicago, with more than 50 employees, was eligible for the list. Rankings were based on surveys developed by Buck Consultants, a human resources consulting firm in New York.
