December 12, 2013 – Industry insiders are predicting Jupiter Ascending will have the most visual effects of any Wachowski film, and the first official trailer does not dispute this.

Warner Bros. uploaded the two-minute video to YouTube on Monday.

The science fiction film is about a young woman destined to rule the universe but who must first dodge an assassin sent by the current queen. She is rescued by a “genetically engineered ex-military hunter” played by Channing Tatum. It is the 22nd film by Chicago natives Lana and Andy Wachowski, who shot here from July through October. Aerial filming over the Chicago River was done on August 25 and August 26.

Filmmakers had to get a city ordinance passed to allow them to land and launch helicopters in downtown Chicago. 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly introduced Ordinance O2013-3394 on May 8.

The film will be released on July 25, 2014.
