Traffic up at Marina City web sites skyscrapercity.com still on top Jul. 11, 2009 – Most of the web sites with a Marina City connection saw traffic increase in June. Operated by Marina City resident Jan Klerks, skyscrapercity.com, already with a towering lead over the 19 or so sites, accommodated 13 percent more visitors than in the previous month, according to the web analytics company Compete, Inc. hotelsaxchicago.com came in second with a 12 percent increase, followed by bin36.com with a 50 percent increase. Compete analyzes the daily web usage of more than two million people. Although its rankings are often quoted in publications such as Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and USA Today, many web administrators believe it consistently under-estimates traffic. Nonetheless, with a 54 percent increase in number of unique visitors, architechgallery.com leaped to the number four spot. marinacityonline.com made it back into the Top Five with a four percent increase in traffic. Other sites with a Marina City connection and an increase in traffic last month include marina-city.com, amanochicago.com, and dkcondo.com.
Although Compete did not have data on vpfalk.net, the personal web site of Marina City resident Vincent Falk, his traffic ranking by another service, Alexa, is higher than Draper & Kramer’s web site, dkcondo.com, that serves 82 associations that it manages, including Marina Towers. According to Alexa, traffic over the past three months is up 50 percent at chicagocarless.com, not down 50 percent over the past month as suggested by the Compete data. Likewise with lynnbecker.com – up 50 percent over the past three months according to Alexa instead of down 90 percent last month according to Compete. June traffic on the Chicago web site of Dick’s Last Resort, says Alexa, was about the same as the previous month. The Chicago office of Transwestern Commercial Services, the commercial property manager at Marina City, had a 17 percent decrease in traffic to its web site. mymtca.com, the site of Marina Towers Condominium Association, is no longer the lowest-ranked of the Marina City sites. landmarkmarinacitynow.org lost 41 percent of its traffic to take that honor. mymtca.com lost only about three percent of its traffic. Ranked at nearly 22 million, it receives in about three hours the number of visitors that skyscrapercity.com receives in one second. According to data from Compete, it takes Marina City Online 23 minutes to receive the amount of traffic that skyscrapercity.com handles in a second. However, according to Google Analytics, MCO actually had 3,662 unique visitors in June and it is very likely that most of the sites ranked above had a significantly greater number of visitors, too. There continued to be no traffic data on either service for marinacitychicagogiftshopgallery.com. Overall, the top-ranked web sites in June were google.com, yahoo.com, and youtube.com, with facebook.com dropping from third to fourth place.
