JDL Development Chicago Plan Commission to discuss River North tower this week

15-Jan-18 – The 76-story residential and retail tower proposed last October for Chicago Avenue & State Street in River North is on the agenda for Thursday’s meeting of the Chicago Plan Commission.

One Chicago Square would be the sixth tallest building in Chicago, built on what is now a parking lot across from Holy Name Cathedral.

The design now includes a 1,012-foot-tall office/retail tower and a 654-foot residential tower, the latter of which would contain 869 condominium and rental units, along with a grocery store and fitness center open to the public.

The commission was scheduled to discuss the project at its December 21 meeting but 2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins asked them to wait while he sought more public feedback. Hopkins said he has received numerous inquiries about how the project would affect traffic in the neighborhood, and asked Chicago Department of Transportation, Chicago Transit Authority, and JDL Development to provide a detailed traffic analysis.

If approved, construction could begin later this year and finish in 2021.
