Tortoise Club shakes it on TV

190 North

March 24, 2013 – (Above) Two drinks are shaken and not stirred at Tortoise Club during a segment on 190 North that aired on March 18. The WLS-TV lifestyle news program was at the new River North restaurant on January 25. Contributor Doug Banks spoke with owner Keene Addington, executive chef Gray McNally, bartender Patrick Hunter, and actual customers.

It was the third time in two months that Tortoise Club has been featured on local television. On January 26, Steve “Hungry Hound” Dolinsky reviewed the restaurant for WLS-TV. “The crowd at the new Tortoise Club in River North looks as though it sprung from the pages of a society magazine,” Dolinsky observed. “But no matter what the crowd looks like, the food on the plate is standard-issue, all-American.”

On March 14, students from Medill School of Journalism produced a segment highlighting dishes such as pheasant potpie as well as artwork and historic artifacts on display at the restaurant.

Tortoise Club opened on the east side of Marina City on November 19, 2012.
