Time Out Chicago wants to know, Why aren’t the Marina City towers a Chicago landmark?

January 22, 2009Time Out Chicago, the weekly guide to cultural activities in Chicago, is updating its readers this week on Marina City’s quest for official landmark status.

In his article, “Children of the Corncobs,” Jake Malooley speaks with supporters of landmarking and opponents. Besides Marina City Online, Jake also spoke with Jonathan Fine of the landmark advocate group Preservation Chicago and Joseph Rosa of the Art Institute of Chicago.

He tried to speak with, presumably, MTCA attorney Ellis Levin but numerous messages were not returned. And he says residential property manager David Gantt hung up on him.

Last August, 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly announced he had started the formal process to seek landmark designation for Marina City. Reilly says the City of Chicago Landmarks Division will prepare a report, explaining why the property should be given official designation.
