26-Aug-19 – High waves on Lake Michigan forced the swim portion of the Chicago Triathlon to be cancelled and almost claimed another casualty.

The HAVANA, a Tiki-themed boat moored at Monroe Harbor, was partially submerged on Sunday after taking on water.

According to Steve Majerus, general manager and partner of Island Party Hut, the boat was unoccupied at the time and did not sink.

Island Party Hut personnel were able to rescue the HAVANA with the help of Westrec Marina at Monroe Harbor and TowBoatUS, a towing service.

“HAVANA will be back in service before you know it,” said Majerus, reached by email on Monday. “In the meantime our other vessels are fully operational and ready to serve our customers.”

The boat is one of ten Polynesian/Tiki-themed boats in the Island Party Boat fleet.
