28-Feb-23 – A man charged with killing a woman and seriously injuring her sister near Marina City last year has pleaded not guilty, though the judge that denied bail says there is “overwhelming evidence” against the man, including surveillance video of him at the scene.

Chicago Police Department

36-year-old Jason McMahan (left), of the Austin neighborhood west of the Loop, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and battery. He was arrested on January 3 in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

On April 30, 2022, at about 1:00 a.m., 26-year-old Tashawna Anderson and her 31-year-old sister, LaShawna Anderson, were attending a birthday party at Marina City’s 10pin Bowling Lounge when Tashawna, reportedly, saw the boyfriend of a friend of hers with another woman.

Witnesses say there was a verbal and physical altercation inside 10pin that spilled onto State Street. The boyfriend and the woman got into a car, a 2018 Cadillac, but women attending the birthday party stood in front of the car. The man got out of the car, punched one of the women in the head, then shot the two sisters with a gun that allegedly belonged to the woman who was with him, who had a concealed carry license.

LaShawna was shot in her left thigh and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Her sister, Tashawna, was shot in the chest and left shoulder. She was taken to Northwestern in critical condition and pronounced dead upon arrival.

One of the gunshots broke a window at Radio Room less than a block away. The shooter then fled south on State Street.

McMahan entered his plea on February 6. His next hearing is on March 14. His previous offenses include DUI and theft.
