17-May-18 – A Des Plaines man is being held without bail and faces felony robbery charges for battering a Loop convenience store clerk while stealing a pair of $9.99 sunglasses, according to court records.

Gathoon Garmoos Gathoon Garmoos (left), age 24, was arrested on May 8 after attempting to steal the eyewear and a case of beer, which escalated into a physical confrontation at the 7-Eleven store at 58 East Lake Street.

When a 35-year-old store clerk tried to stop Garmoos, the suburban man kicked the clerk, dropped the beer, pushed the clerk to the floor, and began to drag him toward the exit, according to a police report. This caused cuts and bruises to the clerk’s arm.

Garmoos allegedly fled with the $9.99 shades but was arrested when he was spotted in the area. He is charged with felony robbery and misdemeanor battery. Circuit Court Judge David Navarro ordered him held without bail.
