Langham scooping up $1,000 sundae
Sep. 17, 2014 – A chocolate and vanilla sundae that costs $1,000 does come with hot fudge, whipped cream, and peanuts. It also comes with 24-karat gold leaf and 24-karat gold dust.
The pricey dessert will be offered starting on September 24 at Pavilion, a restaurant on the second floor of The Langham hotel in River North.
The “new adult ice cream concept” is one of seven announced by The Langham on Tuesday, part of what the hotel calls “an extravagant line-up of sundaes and floats designed to evoke the nostalgia of a favorite childhood treat.”
The sundae, named The Victoria, is made from Tahitian vanilla ice cream, Guittard Complexite 70 percent chocolate ice cream, caramelized golden peanuts, dark chocolate croquant (caramelized sugar with chopped roasted hazelnuts or almonds), handcrafted chocolate crown, salted caramel, butterscotch, and Hennessy VSOP cognac. It is served with a bottle of Dom Perignon 2003 in a Wedgewood crystal bowl that is yours to keep, along with a free glass of Prosecco if you order anytime from September 24 through October 31.
Executive Pastry Chef Scott Green says he based his treats on flavors he enjoyed as a child.
“Ice cream is a year-round craving and the added alcohol component simply makes it that much more versatile for guests to indulge throughout all seasons.”
