Standard tempts residents, workers with special Marina City rate

February 23, 2011 – Standard Parking may be gone from Marina City but it is still trying to attract Marina City residents and their vehicles.

A garage operated by Standard at 401 North State Street, northeast of the complex, is offering a special rate to anyone who lives or works at Marina City – $99 per month for the first six months, then $119 per month for the next six months.

On January 15, Central Parking System took over management of the two 18-story spiral parking ramps at Marina City. Standard Parking Corporation had managed the 900-car garages since May 1, 2009. Recently, however, a request for proposals was made on behalf of the owner of the ramps, LaSalle Hotel Properties, and the contract was awarded to CPS.

Donald Jones, a senior manager at Standard Parking, confirmed the special rate last week but said he was “not really capable of responding to” questions about why Standard lost the contract at Marina City.
