State Solicitor General leaves Madigan for River North

January 15, 2014 – The solicitor general for the State of Illinois has left that job for a partnership at Jenner & Block’s Chicago office in River North.

The University of Chicago Law School Michael Scodro (left) was in charge of the civil and criminal appeals divisions for Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. On the same day Madigan announced appointment of a new solicitor general, Jenner & Block announced Scodro will become a partner of the law firm on January 27.

Scodro has argued on behalf of Illinois in the U.S. Supreme Court and Illinois Supreme Court, as well as federal and state appellate courts. He was executive editor of Yale Law Journal and was once a law clerk to former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. He had been solicitor general since 2007.

He got a good job reference from Madigan, who called him ’an exemplary solicitor general.”

Located at 353 North Clark, the local Jenner & Block office said in a news release on Tuesday it will use Scodro’s experience to further build the firm as “a destination for appellate representation.”
