Marina City web sites hold steady in May traffic rankings

June 9, 2009 – There was little change last month in the traffic rankings of web sites with a Marina City connection. Despite losing 15 percent of its traffic from April, according to the web analytics company Compete, Inc., skyscrapercity.com maintained its towering lead. The world’s largest architectural web site was ranked the 15,219th most popular of an estimated 100 million web sites in operation.

Compete had traffic estimates for eleven Marina City related web sites. While Compete notoriously underestimates traffic, it’s believed it does so consistently, providing a useful, general indication of a site’s popularity.

hotelsaxchicago.com, bin36.com, and lynnbecker.com held onto their second, third, and fourth-place ranks, respectively. However, 10pinchicago.com, says Compete, gained enough traffic to leap over chicagocarless.com and marinacityonline.com to take the number five spot. Seven Marina City sites, including Marina City Online, rank under one million and therefor in the top one percent of the Internet.

Although there was not enough data for Compete to rank the web site of Dick’s Last Resort, another service, Alexa, has them at number 822,986. The site of the Chicago office of Transwestern Commercial Services, the commercial property manager at Marina City, was ranked at 824,812. Marina City resident Vincent Falk’s web site came in at 5,572,979. landmarkmarinacitynow.org was ranked at 18,016,366. And the web site of Marina Towers Condominium Association, was at 21,128,805.

There was not enough traffic data for anyone to rank bertrandgoldberg.org or marinacitychicagogiftshopgallery.com. Neither service can rank sub-domains, which would exclude marinawatchdog.blogspot.com.

Compete analyzes the daily web usage of more than two million people. Its rankings, based on unique visitors to a site, are often quoted in publications such as Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and USA Today.

Overall, the top-ranked web sites in May were google.com, yahoo.com, and facebook.com.
