skyscrapercity, chicagocarless lead pack of Marina City web sites

May 6, 2010 – chicagocarless.com had the biggest increase in web traffic over the past three months, out of 14 sites with a Marina City connection. The blog by east tower resident Mike Doyle jogged to second place, ranked as the 634,933rd most popular site on the Internet according to the web analysis company Alexa.

It is a 54 percent increase in traffic for Doyle, who announced in April that he is leaving Marina City.

Mike Doyle “I’m leaving because I miss seeing trees outside my living room window that aren’t inflatable,” muses Doyle (left), who moved to Marina City in 2005. “I’m moving to Lincoln Square, a neighborhood where restaurants seat locals first, tourists second.”

skyscrapercity.com, operated by Marina City resident Jan Klerks, still towers over the other 13 sites. Its Alexa ranking on May 3 was 2,058, about where it has been since last September.

In third place is bin36.com, moving up from fourth place. lynnbecker.com moved up from seventh to fourth place. And rounding out the top five is architechgallery.com, moving up from sixth place.

Tumbling down the list was the web site for Hotel Sax, going from second place in February to seventh place in May. And while Google Analytics show traffic up at marinacityonline.com, Alexa is not buying it, saying MCO has dropped from fifth to ninth place.

The ranking was slightly different at Compete, another service that estimates web traffic, showing the top five sites as skyscrapercity.com, chicagocarless.com, lynnbecker.com, bin36.com, and hotelsaxchicago.com. Marina City Online was ranked seventh on that list, behind architechgallery.com.

On May 3, 2010, according to Alexa, the top web sites related to Marina City were…

Despite having the biggest increase in ranking of the 14 sites in February, marina-city.com did not have enough traffic in May to be ranked. There was not enough data to rank bertrandgoldberg.org and landmarkmarinacitynow.org. Alexa does not rank sub-domains, which would exclude the Marina Watchdog blog and sites for Dick’s Last Resort and Transwestern.

Alexa bases traffic estimates on data collected from users of its toolbar and other sources over three months.

There are an estimated 206 million web sites on the Internet. The top three sites, according to Alexa, are currently google.com, facebook.com, and youtube.com.
