February 22, 2014 – A 20-foot-tall sign planned for the south side of its 98-story building will cost Trump International Hotel & Tower $900,000, according to its building permit.

The permit was issued on October 15, 2013. When contacted on October 24 by Loop North News, a Trump spokesperson said they were not aware of any plans for a sign.

On Friday, Crain’s Chicago Business quoted Donald Trump saying a sign, spelling out his last name, will appear “very shortly” just below the 16th floor terrace.

The sign is described as stainless steel and backlit with white LED lights. The contractor listed on the permit is Shaw Electric Sign Company of Round Lake, Illinois.

“We just felt that people love the building, so we decided recently to put it up,” Trump told Crain’s. “It’s part of the architecture of the building, and the people in the building love it as an identifier.”

According to Donald Trump, installation of the sign has been delayed by weather.
