PBA shootout returns to 10pin

Professional Bowlers Association

April 28, 2012 – They will be back. 2009 PBA Rookie of the Year Jason Belmonte, 2010 PBA Dick Weber Open Champion Mike Fagan, five-time PBA Tournament of Champions winner Sean Rash, and five-time U.S. Open winner Pete Weber are just four of the bowling world’s elite who will return to 10pin Bowling Lounge next month for another PBA Summer Shootout.

It will be the sixth annual summer shootout and the second to be held at Marina City’s upscale bowling alley. On May 27, 28, and 29, 23 bowlers will compete on nine teams, each team representing a bowling ball manufacturer. The shootout will start with a special professional/amateur event on Sunday, May 27 at 7 p.m. Like last year, the series will be videotaped for broadcast on ESPN beginning on July 7.

“Make no mistake,” cautioned PBA commissioner Tom Clark in a news release on Friday, “while this event is guaranteed to be fun and exciting for fans to watch on site and as it plays out over the summer months on ESPN, the radical format means it will be a unique tightrope walk for players that will have them on edge fighting for survival from the first ball.”

Last year, the “900 Global” team – Michael Haugen Jr., Steve Jaros, Missy Parkin, Robert Smith, and Brian Voss – won the PBA Summer Shootout and $70,000.
