Condo board switches security firm

American Heritage Protective Services February 15, 2011 – Security issues in recent years have apparently inspired the condo board at Marina City to fire its provider of security services and hire a new one.

The board voted at its most recent meeting to hire American Heritage Protective Services at an annual cost of $302,032 – a few thousand dollars under what the condominium association had budgeted for security.

Unit owners who attended the January 20 meeting say they were told problems with the current provider, A & R Security, included personnel letting people in without requiring them to use their key fob and giving “smart remarks” to residents.

American Heritage Protective Services has corporate offices in Alsip, Illinois, southwest of Chicago. More than 400 off-duty police officers are on staff, according to its website. The company’s president, Arthur Hannus, was with Chicago Police Department for 13 years and at age 23 was the youngest burglary detective in the city.
