June 19, 2015 – Morton Salt, Inc., will be moving north soon – a couple of blocks, at least, and across the river to River Point being constructed north of Lake Street and east of Canal Street.

The company, which produces salt for food and industrial use, announced on Wednesday it has signed a 16-year lease of two of River Point’s 52 floors. 300 employees from 123 North Wacker Drive and 50 from Oak Brook, Illinois, will work in 52,600 square feet at River Point.

“Becoming part of this new riverfront landmark is symbolic of our commitment to Chicago,” said CEO Christian Herrmann, “and to the continued evolution of our company within this great American city and skyline.”

Mayor Rahm Emanuel was pleased to hear Morton Salt will remain in Chicago as it has for the past 167 years. He says the company “has a long history in Chicago which it showcases by its commitment to bringing more jobs to the city.”

The company is planning to move in December 2016, about when the building will start to open. By spring 2017, it will include a 1.5-acre public park and landscaped walkway along the Chicago River.
