July 12, 2012 – Named for a 1955 song by Jimmy Durante, Bar Umbriago has opened as a “new age wine bar” in the old EATT space at North State & West Hubbard Streets.

It is still owned by Rosebud Restaurants, Inc. On February 12, EATT closed for renovation after less than two years in business, promising to re-open later in the year as a wine bar. Besides wine, the restaurant opened on June 13 with an Italian food menu with all but one item costing less than $20. The restaurant’s website says Bar Umbriago “provides an authentic atmosphere reminiscent of Italy’s [wine shops] featuring European family-style dining.”

28-year-old executive chef Michael Ponzio was previously with Rosebud on Rush. He is the author of Cibo: Anybody’s Guide to Italian Cooking and has appeared on the Food Network. He is also Director of Culinary for Rosebud Restaurants.
