Third man charged in Gold Coast knifepoint robbery

March 2, 2016 – A third man has been charged in an armed robbery that happened last October near Oak Street Beach.

Daniel Morales Daniel Morales (left), age 20, who lives in the 4100 block of West 25th Place, southwest of the Loop, was charged with two felony counts of armed robbery and for a parole violation.

Chicago police say Morales was arrested recently after being identified as one of three men who robbed a 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman at knifepoint on October 25, 2015. The robbery happened at about 11:50 p.m. near Oak Street Beach and the 1100 block of North Lake Shore Drive.

The man and woman are from Minneapolis. They were walking along the beach and looking for an underpass to get back to their hotel when they were surrounded by the robbers, who demanded money.

During the robbery, the male victim tried to disarm the man with the knife but was stabbed. He was treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The woman was not injured.

The robbers fled with a wallet, credit cards, passport, and mobile phone belonging to the victims.

Two other men, Noe Mondragon and Luis Salgado-Camargo, were arrested last October and charged in the robbery.
