Robbery, carjacking in River North on New Year’s Day Jan. 14, 2014 – The new year did not start well for two motorists who were robbed in River North in two incidents on New Year’s Day. The second incident turned into a carjacking. The robberies happened at two parking garages, one in the 100 block of West Superior Street at about 11 a.m., the other at 2:40 p.m. about five blocks away in the 100 block of East Chestnut Street, less than a block from Michigan Avenue. (Above) June 2011 Google Street View of the area where the second robbery happened. With one man driving the getaway car, another man approached the victims, displayed a handgun, and demanded money. They also got the victim’s car in the second robbery. The man with the gun is described as African-American, 26 to 32 years old, six feet tall, with “cornrow” hair and a light brown complexion. The car was a black four-door Hyundai with tinted windows and a sunroof. A description of the man who drove the Hyundai was not available, according to an alert issued by the Chicago Police Department on Tuesday. |
