March 9, 2015 – A group of men walking into a 7-Eleven at the right time may have foiled a robbery in the Loop last month.

Chicago police officers were responding to a disturbance at AMA Plaza at about 5:07 a.m. on February 17 when they heard a police radio call about a robbery attempt at the convenience store inside the Jewelers’ Building, formally known as 35 East Wacker, directly across the Chicago River.

One of the men they were questioning about the disturbance, 22-year-old Timothy Anderson, matched the description of the robber. They took Anderson back to the 7-Eleven, where a 59-year-old employee confirmed he was the one who walked in earlier and tried to rob the store.

“I got these guns on me so give me the shit and they’ll be no problems,” Anderson said to the store employee, according to police. “You all don’t know who I am.”

Just then, a group of men walked into the store. Anderson left quickly and ran north on Wabash Avenue, which leads to AMA Plaza.

Anderson told police he got into an argument with the convenience store employee but it was the employee who pulled a gun on him.

There were no injuries. No money was taken from the store and no gun was found on Anderson. He was arrested and charged with attempted robbery.
