Two late night falls onto Riverwalk this week

August 12, 2011 – A man was injured early Friday morning when he apparently fell from the State Street Bridge onto the Riverwalk. Contrary to earlier reports, however, he was not pulled from the Chicago River.

“The guy was never in the water,” said Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Richard Rosado.

Rosado said the man fell onto the Riverwalk near State Street and Wacker Drive. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition. The incident happened at about 1:35 a.m.

It was the second time in one week that a man was found seriously injured in the middle of the night near the Riverwalk. At about 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday, a man was found on the ramp from Lower Wacker Drive to Upper Wacker Drive near Stetson Avenue. He sustained multiple injuries in an apparent fall from a bridge near the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
