November 23, 2013 – 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly was one of three Chicago aldermen recognized by a transportation advocacy organization this week for “important contributions to the movement for better walking, biking, and transit.”

Reilly was given a “public leadership award” by Active Transportation Alliance at a reception in Chicago on November 19. Also receiving awards were Danny Solis (25th) and Walter Burnett, Jr. (27th).

“These aldermen have made stands for better transportation by supporting protected bike lanes in their wards, supporting innovative transit projects, launching bike education programs, and welcoming Open Streets events to their wards,” said Ron Burke, executive director of Active Transportation Alliance, in a news release.

An Open Streets event in 2012 closed seven blocks of State Street to vehicles for a day so that pedestrians could enjoy a variety of activities.

Formerly known as Chicagoland Bicycle Federation, Active Transportation Alliance is a non-profit organization of 7,000 members who promote public transit, bicycling, and walking.
