42nd Ward voters pick Rahm and Chuy but mostly Rahm

February 25, 2015 – Rahm Emanuel may not have had enough votes to avoid a runoff election for Chicago mayor on April 7 but he decisively won downtown Chicago’s 42nd Ward on Tuesday.

Emanuel received 73.21 percent of the vote in the municipal general election, distantly followed by Jesus “Chuy” Garcia with 16.72 percent.

On the question of paid leave for workers, 64 percent of voters said “yes” and 36 percent said “no.”

On the question of domestic abuse treatment, 85 percent voted “yes” and 15 percent voted “no.”

On the question of campaign finance reform, 77 percent voted “yes” and 23 percent voted “no.”

The ward achieved a 27 percent voter turnout, with 31,309 registered voters and of those, 8,556 voting.

City Clerk Susana Mendoza, City Treasurer Kurt Summers, and 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly ran unopposed. Reilly still got 6,844 votes from his ward.
