May 19, 2025 – The Chicago Police Department (CPD) has announced command staff promotions aimed at enhancing public safety across the city.

Superintendent Larry Snelling introduced Lieutenant Ricky Rivera as the new Commander of the 14th (Shakespeare) District, Lieutenant Thomas Hanrahan as Acting Commander of the 16th (Jefferson Park) District, and Captain Christopher Bielfeldt as Commander of the 18th (Near North) District.

Bielfeldt (left) has been with CPD for 26 years, previously overseeing operations at Midway Airport and serving in various divisions. He was also a Captain in the 17th (Albany Park) District and worked with the Bureau of Detectives on re-opening Area Four and Area Five detective divisions.

“Their depth of experience and the expertise they have gained throughout their careers have equipped them for these roles,” said Snelling of the three new commanders. “Each have demonstrated a clear commitment to making our city safer for every Chicagoan.”

Bielfeldt replaces Michael Barz, who commanded the 18th District since June 16, 2023.
