New Trump exec has experience with competitive pastries

StarChefs.com January 16, 2014 – The restaurant at Trump International Hotel & Tower has a new executive pastry chef. Yes, there is such a job as “executive pastry chef.”

Aya Fukai (left) will oversee the dessert program at Sixteen, according to a news release on Thursday.

She was in charge of pastries and bread at Ria and the Waldorf Astoria’s restaurant, Balsan, in Chicago and has worked for upscale restaurants in Boston.

In 2012, Fukai competed in the third annual StarChefs.com International Pastry Competition. She did not win but she made it to the second round.

Sixteen recently upgraded to two stars in the 2014 Michelin Guide.
