July 8, 2016 – A parking lot attendant in River North was robbed at gunpoint of cash and his mobile phone last month but the robbers tried to take his car, too.

On June 8 at about 1:25 p.m., according to Chicago police, two men walked up to the attendant near North Franklin and West Ohio Streets, pulled a handgun on him, placed it to his left temple, and ordered him inside the booth in the middle of the lot.

When the victim complied, and they were all inside the booth, one of the robbers asked, “Where’s the money?”

The attendant pulled $120 from his pocket and gave it to the man not holding the gun. He was then asked where his car was. The victim pointed to a board with the keys to his 2003 Jeep Wrangler. With one of the robbers still pointing the gun at the attendant, the other went out to the car and tried unsuccessfully to open the driver’s side door. He then went back into the booth and asked the victim, “Where’s the rest of the money?”

“That is all the money I have,” the attendant replied. “My boss has the rest.”

He was then told to play music on his mobile phone, which he did.

They took his phone, worth about $900, along with the cash and a key ring with the victim’s car and house keys. The robbers ran east on Ohio Street to Wells Street and escaped.

They are described as black men, 20 to 25 years old. One is five feet seven inches tall, 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. The other is five feet eleven inches tall, 175 pounds, with brown eyes.

The stolen Samsung Galaxy S6h had a black case and a cracked screen.

Police say the entire incident was recorded by surveillance cameras inside and outside the booth, as well as from a building north of the parking lot. They were unable to get fingerprints, however, because the attendant touched all of the surfaces that the robbers touched.
