22-Feb-19 – Rusted and unsightly structures along 895 feet of the CTA Brown Line are being repainted thanks to three private development projects and 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly.

The tracks run along Franklin Street in River North, from just south of Ontario Street to just north of Huron Street.

Although the CTA is a separate government agency from the Chicago City Council, Reilly worked with the CTA and Chicago Department of Planning and Development to create a density bonus fund that allowed money from nearby private-sector projects to be spent on repainting structures beneath the tracks.

The development projects are at 142 West Hubbard Street, 300 West Huron Street, and 110 North Wacker Drive.

The first phase of the project, repainting tracks between Huron and Superior, is mostly complete. Work on the remaining tracks, including two support structures, requires milder temperatures and will continue in mid-spring.
