June 17, 2016 – Lyric Opera is looking for Chicagoans who love to sing.

A project called Chicago Voices Sing launches today to encourage Chicagoans, individuals and groups “from all walks of life,” to record and submit videos of themselves singing any style of music.

You do not have to submit a video for Lyric Opera to find you. A van with a professional video crew inside will tour iconic Chicago locations and record people singing a selection of well-known songs. The van will be in the Loop and River North on Friday.

Photo by Jonathan Tichler “Chicago Voices Sing is about people of all skill levels, shower singers to soloists, from all styles of music, getting the chance to express themselves,” says Renée Fleming (left), Lyric Opera’s Creative Consultant.

“While it’s not a contest,” says Cayenne Harris (right), director of Lyric Unlimited, “we’re going to have a lot of fun featuring these videos in some interesting ways.” Cayenne Harris

The project is part of a larger initiative to celebrate, says Lyric Opera, “Chicago’s vibrant vocal music culture” and expand the traditional role of the opera company.
