11-Oct-20 – The former Edgewater home of voice actor and Word Jazz artist Ken Nordine is on its way toward official landmark status.

At its October 1 meeting, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks recommended landmarking 6106 North Kenmore Avenue. The mansion, built in 1902, is the last single-family home on a block zoned for mid-rise and high-rise housing, sparking a preservation effort by activists and nearby residents.

49th Ward Alderman Harry Osterman predicts the Chicago City Council will vote in favor of landmarking the home.

“I want to thank the Edgewater Historical Society for their advocacy in preserving one of the few remaining Cochran-era mansions east of Broadway in our community,” said Osterman, referring to developer John L. Cochran, who created Edgewater in 1886.
