A young, high-energy cast performs this classic family favorite through June 5.

22-May-22 – You know the story. A young nun, Maria, whose free spirit does not fit in well with the rules of the monastery, is given a chance for redemption by serving as governess to seven motherless children. She transforms the von Trapp family home from a place of stern obedience to one filled with joy, laughter, and music – and along the way, falls in love with their father.

Based on the true story of The Trapp Family Singers, this play captures a personal tale of growth and hope amidst the coming horrors of World War II.

The classic family favorite gets a fresh take with a young, high-energy cast and is now playing at the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire through June 5.

The wonderful Tony, Grammy, and Academy Award-winning Best Score features music by Richard Rogers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, including My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, Edelweiss, and the iconic title song.

This was the final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein and was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical.

The show is directed by Nick Bowling, recipient of eight Jeff Awards for Outstanding Direction.

“This heartwarming story continues to resonate with so many across the world,” said Bowling, “and that’s what makes this musical truly stand the test of time and something I am truly honored to be a part of.”

Music direction is by Jeff Award winner Ryan T. Nelson, music supervisor is Patti Garwood, and the splendid choreography is by William Carlos Angulo.

Making her Marriott Theatre debut, Addie Morales as Maria is sensational, bringing a youthful energy to her character. She can hit those high notes, brings joy to the stage, and sings like there is no tomorrow.

Erik Hellman (front center in photo at right) as Captain von Trapp is a little more subdued in his performance, but the audience can see his pain and grief.

Strong voices are necessary for the singing nuns – and led by Daniella Dalli as Mother Abbess, the group brings the power and passion of Climb Ev’ry Mountain to its impressive conclusion.

But it’s the adorable von Trapp children who win your heart, played by Campbell Krausen, Brody Tyner, Milla Liss, Archer Geye, Omi Lichtenstein, Olivia O’Sullivan, and Reese Bella. They are lively, yet sad and hopeful, with their new governess who makes them playclothes out of curtains – created by costume designer Sally Dolembo – and teaches them to sing.

This is the perfect outing to introduce children to the magic of live theatre.
