Whirlpool training center opens at Reid Murdoch

Photo by Steven Dahlman November 10, 2010 – The 96-year-old Reid Murdoch Center was not showing its age on Tuesday, as the riverfront landmark unveiled new kitchens, laundry rooms, garages, and outdoor entertainment areas – all part of a 30,000 square foot training and “brand experience” center for home appliance maker Whirlpool.

“World of Whirlpool Corporation” will offer training on the company’s products to interior designers, trade customers, sales associates, and others in interactive, state-of-the-art environments.

20 new jobs will be created, according to the Mayor’s office.

“This city has a positive attitude about this difficult economy,” said Mayor Richard M. Daley, who helped open the facility at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Every job we create is a new effort in moving the direction of the economy, not only here but world-wide, in a much better direction. We need the cooperation of government and business together – it has to work together – we cannot be adversary.”

As part of the renovation, the Whirlpool logo was added to the east and west sides of the clock tower.
