RFID readers to track parking ramp inventory

Dec. 3, 2007 – Residents will soon be getting a memo about new technology being installed in the parking ramps to track inventory.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) readers are being installed on the plaza level of both towers. Car owners will be issued a transponder that will tell the system when the vehicle enters and exits the ramp.

The RFID technology – a "SmartPass" system manufactured by TransID, LLC – allows for automatic identification and data collection.

David Amponsah, Area Manager for System Parking, which manages the ramps for Transwestern Commercial Services, says parking fees will not be affected.
