October 21, 2024 The City of Chicago will honor renowned architect Benjamin H. Marshall by designating East Lake Shore Drive as Honorary Benjamin Marshall Way during a ceremony on October 23.
The event, presided by 2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins, will take place near the intersection of East Lake Shore Drive and North Michigan Avenue at 5:30 p.m.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Marshalls birth and his influential contributions to Chicagos architectural identity. Marshall (left), who defined iconic buildings throughout the city, was vital in shaping the Gold Coast neighborhood and is known for landmarks such as The Drake Hotel and South Shore Cultural Center. |
The street naming was the result of effort by the Benjamin Marshall Society to highlight Marshalls role in the citys cultural and urban development.
