July 5, 2014 – The Langham hotel has debuted at number one on Travel + Leisure’s annual ranking of best hotels in the United States.

The River North hotel is at the top of a list of 50 best hotels in large cities in the continental United States. The ranking is based on questionnaires filled out by readers of the travel magazine between December 2, 2013, and March 31, 2014.

“Opened in July 2013, it’s already a local favorite thanks to detail-oriented service,” reads the magazine’s review. “Everyone from the receptionist to the porter gets to know guests by name.”

The Langham beat two established River North hotels on the list. The Peninsula on East Superior Street, which opened in 2001, held onto the number four spot. Trump International Hotel & Tower, open since 2008 and now across Wabash from The Langham, fell from sixth place to ninth.

In Travel + Leisure’s ranking of the 50 best hotels in the world, The Langham is ranked sixth. Only 14 U.S. hotels are on that list and none except The Langham is in Chicago.
