If you are a child of the 1970s or 1980s, or your parents made you listen to the award-winning ‘Tapestry’ album, ‘Beautiful’ will be right up your alley.

20-Nov-23 – Now showing at The Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical tells the inspiring true story of King’s rise to fame and fortune, from teenage songwriter to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

It’s most likely the soundtrack of your life. Featuring over two dozen pop classics, including Natural Woman, One Fine Day, Up on the Roof, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, You’ve Got a Friend, and You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling, this awesome musical will have you singing in the aisles.

Carole King has written literally hundreds of tunes, many you probably don’t know are attributed to her, but made into hits by Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, The Chiffons, The Drifters, and The Shirelles.

The bio-musical follows King’s rise to stardom from her time as part of a hit songwriting team with husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann. She became one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history with her 1971 album, Tapestry.

“Beautiful” takes you back to where it all began – with energy, love, and heartbreak.

The show is being performed at The Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire through December 31. Directed by Jessica Fisch, musical direction is provided by Jeff Award Winner Ryan T. Nelson.

Kaitlyn Davis, who played Carole in the First National Tour in 2015, is sensational as she sings and plays the piano. Her angst is real, and so is her empowering decision to move to California and sing her own songs.

Andrew Mueller, who plays Gerry Goffin, is the brother of Jesse Mueller, who played Carole on Broadway and won a Tony award in 2014.

The team of Erica Stephan as Weil and Justin Albinder as Mann is terrific. They sing, they bicker, and they are the highlights of the show.

Sully Ratke’s gorgeous costumes for the girls’ and young men’s singing groups are colorful and exquisite.

This happy, high-energy musical is a must-see.
