Kimmel trial will start June 2

January 15, 2008 – The trial of Dr. Gary S. Kimmel, the Marina City resident accused of money laundering, has been rescheduled for Monday, June 2.

At a brief hearing late Tuesday morning at the Dirksen Courthouse, Kimmel’s attorney, Joseph Lopez, worked out a new trial date with Julie Ruder of the United States Attorney’s Office and the judge, Honorable Blanch M. Manning.

Dr. Kimmel appeared at the hearing. He was not addressed by Manning and did not speak when he was before her.

Prosecutors expressed eagerness to start the trial and wanted assurance from the court that the trial date would not be reset again.

Lopez has another trial that started on January 7 and conflicted with the previous court date for Kimmel of February 11.

Kimmel was indicted in January 2006 on a federal money laundering charge linked to a nationwide prostitution ring. He pleaded not guilty and was released on $100,000 bail.
