October 10, 2012 – (Above) This is the view looking northwest from the top floor of the 41-story Kemper Building in downtown Chicago. Currently used for storage, the entire floor, with views in every direction, will open to the public this weekend for the first time since 1972. The building is part of Chicago Architecture Foundation’s Open House Chicago, an event offering free access to 150 buildings.

Built in 1962, it was originally the United Insurance Building, changing to Unitrin in 2000. On August 25, 2011, the insurance company changed its name to Kemper.

Open House Chicago is this Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
