March 20, 2023 – A 60-story office/residential tower in Streeterville will have some of its floors converted to an extended stay hotel.

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the partial redevelopment of Onterie Building at 446 East Ontario Street. The building is known for its window panels that form a distinctive cross-brace.

100,000 square feet of vacant office space on five floors will be converted to a 101-room extended stay hotel, with a minimum two-night stay, to be operated by Sonder.

Windows on the sixth floor will be replaced to make an atrium more visible.

Sonder and the building’s owner, Group Fox, met with Streeterville Organization of Active Residents and, according to SOAR, agreed to “a number of proactive measures to improve the project.”

Group Fox needs approval by the Chicago City Council to operate a hotel on the planned development.
